The club recently held its annual October doubles competition. This year it was decided to make it a mixed event, as the March Madness event Feb 25 - March 3 will cater to all other categories.
There were 16 pairings and some mouth - watering matchups. Notable battles included Rob Doherty and Jen Henry versus Caleb Quinlan and Heather Pilkington (Caleb and Heather sneaking home in the 5th!). They went down in the semi finals to the formidable pairing of Chris Boden and Giselle Delgado. In the top half 3rd seeds Lindsay Smith and Karen Danylchuk went out to Paul Cocker and Trish Fulton in the first round! They then went down to Dave Morrish and Laura Savage who in turn beat top seeds Phil Stables and Sandra Shaw in a very competitive 4 games (by far the best doubles Morrish had ever played!). Boden and Delgado proved to be in a class of their own in the final, winning in 3 straight games against Morrish and Savage. The consolation final was between Arthur Naregatsian and Jen Lewis who lost in a tight match to Lindsay Smith and Karen Danylchuk. Jen Henry and Julie Varley put on a fantastic Halloween party, together with decorations and some wonderfully costumed players and guests! Thanks to Jen and Julie for putting on a great event and for Rob Doherty for helping put the draws together and presenting the prizes (very special thanks to Ron and Jen Henry of Carolina Homes for donating a case of wine for the prizes).
